Soyinka visits Igboho in Cotonou

The Nobel laureate Prof Wole Soyinka on Sunday visited the Yoruba nation agitator,Sunday Adeyemi, popularly called Igboho in Cotonou, Benin Republic, a visit said to be solidarity for him(Igboho) to know that he has not being abandoned in view of his plight

Penpushing reports that Soyinka, crossed the Seme border in the afternoon into Cotonou, and while sighted waiting to complete immigration formalities, he was accosted by excited crowd repeatedly asking him about his destination.

The Professor of Comparative Literature, in response said he was visiting Igboho to break the Moslem fast with him,explaining that even though they are both non-Muslims; arguing that  it made no difference because he wished to see him (Igboho,) to sympathise with him.

Penpushing further reports that, Soyinka pointed out that Ramadan is as good as any other season to express non-denominational solidarity.

The Yoruba nation agitator and his wife, Ropo, it is recalled were arrested on July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the Republic of Benin, on their way to Germany

The Beninoise government, however, later released his wife and remanded  Igboho in custody  until March this year, when he was released, on condition that he still remain in the country under full security for awhile.
