School proprietor allegedly rapes four-year-old girl

A school proprietor of Great Leaders International School, Delta State which runs preschool, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, primary and junior secondary programmes, Innocent Onwuegbule has allegedly raped a four-year-old girl in his school.

Penpushing reports that Onwuegbule who doubles as the principal of the junior secondary section of the school was exposed by a human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, in a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

The human activist said the suspect had been arrested by the police and detained at Agbor Police Area Command in the state adding that he allegedly took the victim inside a toilet in the school where he used scissors to cut her private part, injected an unknown substance on her buttock and then raped her.

Penpushing further reports that the activist who uploaded a video clip on the Facebook page which showed the victim’s mother corroborating his claim said the incident happened on 4 October,2023 at Agbor, a community in Ika South Local Government Area of the state.

The activist in the video clip added that when the innocent girl reached home, she was found urinating blood which caught attention of her mother, who claimed she was been pressured to settle the matter with the suspect

‘But I need justice because the way the matter take be now, dem dey look me like say I no get money (and) there is nobody to talk for me. So, that’s why they are doing all those things’, the mother of the victim was heard saying.

Penpushing also reports that the activist was heard interacting in Pidgin English with the victim whose face was completely hidden, and the victim in response was heard saying that the principal took her inside the toilet, while the activist called on the police and the Ministry of Education in the state to intervene in the matter.

The Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a post on his X handle on Thursday, adding that the Agbor area commander told him on the telephone that the incident happened two weeks ago.

Penpushing reports that Edafe, a deputy superintendent of police, added in the post that the case was being handled by the area command with assurance that justice would prevail after thorough investigation

‘However, we should avoid settlement because these days parents especially from rural areas go behind the police and collect money from suspects, thereby making prosecution difficult’, the police spokesperson said.

Penpushing further report that the Edafe said commissioner of police as at the time of filing this report has directed the area commander to charge this case to court, adding that they are presently in court as at the time of his updated post in another post on the microblogging platform.
