Sarah Ajayi, visually impaired girl on sponsorship of Penpushing media becomes graduate

The visually impaired girl, Sarah Ajayi, who was discovered by Penpushing Media, and subsequently offered scholarship by the organization with support of a leader on the platform has graduated after her three year course.

Penpushing reports that, the lady was discovered three years ago, in company of her mother seeking for alms in the streets of Abeokuta, an ugly development which caught the attention of the management, it was therefore taken as   a challenge that should be addressed in making life meaningful for the innocent girl.

The report has it that, she was 18-years old, and in Junior Secondary School(JSS) class when she lost her two eyes to glaucoma, efforts were made by the Penpushing media to assist her to regain her sight, which informed the  management’s decision to take her to State Hospital, Sokenu Abeokuta, and University College Hospital(UCH,Ibadan.

Penpushing reports that, frantic efforts considered as social responsibility of the organization proved abortive, hence, the decision to rehabilitate her, became the next option that  putting her in a school was the next best option,and Sarah was then enrolled in the Federal Government Vocational Training Centre for the Blind, in Oshodi, Lagos State.

The Management and Editorial Board of the organization with the support of and elder on the platform, rose up to the task, and after securing admission for her, offered the girl scholarship in the college.

Penpushing also reports that, she was enrolled to study Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Bead Making, Use of English as well as Catering and Hospitality Management, a programme which took her  three years.

The girl earlier in an interview  narrated how her sight predicament started, saying, It was during her childhood days, adding that she  was still seven years old then, and when she was taken to  the hospital, they told her parents her   condition was cataract, explaining that along  the line, her father died and then the condition got worst.

‘We didn’t have the money to go to the hospital and then after some years, I went back and I was told that I have another eye problem, which is eyeline detachment/cataract, and with that, the eyes keep getting worse and I now went back to the hospital and was told that we will need almost N700, 000 for surgery because that’s the only solution’, she said.

The girl in the first year of her course lost her 40 year old mother, and became an orphan, while at a time during her holiday, some miscreants broke into her room and made away with her laptop and other educational materials, but all these ugly developments were not allowed to draw her back with  the assistance of her sponsors.

Penpushing reports that inspite of all odds, the determined lady returned to school, having been provided with another sets of her school equipment earlier carted away, and as life has to continue, she was encouraged to put those behind her

The girl showed further commitment to her academic, and after her three years training in the school, she came out in flying colours on Thursday, December 15, 2022, and was part of the graduating students of the college.

Penpushing further reports that, the graduation ceremony witnessed by a number of guests, which include their parents, guardians and sponsors took place at the premises of the college located at FIIRO road,off Cappa Bus Stop, Agege Motor Road, Oshodi, Lagos

The graduands were in high spirits throughout the ceremony, and the college musical band comprising the blind students thrilled the guests and themselves to various music melody, which threw the vicinity into excitement.

Penpushing also reports that, Sarah during an interview with journalists expressed appreciation to Penpushing media and the leaders for taking up her challenges, adding that, the organization has brought her hope of a fulfilling life.

‘Then I was frustrated, then I was hopeless, I was like what am I going to become in life, I don’t see myself becoming anything later in future. But today, I can see myself in future becoming a very important person and also, though I have disability but now I have ability, that is, I can do anything I want to do’, she said.

‘I want to appreciate my adopted father, Daddy Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, the Editorial Board and Management of Penpsuhing Media, and the elder on the platform who brought smiles to my face, when I thought all hopes were lost. God will continue to be with them’, she stated

‘Well, the world of the blind (physically challenged) is another world entirely Well, at first it was frustrating, it was very hard at first, so I was like can I do it? . I won’t just base on bead making, soap making, but if there is help, I pray there should be help, I will try to add things that people are selling, trading.’

‘’Also, after the learning of my computer too, there is nothing you can’t use the computer to do these days, so I will connect with the internet, and put the bead making and soap making on it, the graduand stated

Penpushing further reports that, following the graduation of Ajayi, as a specialist in Information and Communication Technology(ICT), Bead Making, Use of English and Catering and Hospitality Management, she now need a job, or her business set up for her.
