Sanusi’s Sack: Kano Emirate official resigns

The Principal Private Secretary to the deposed emir of Kano, Mujtaba Abba, has resigned from the Kano emirate council, and tendered his resignation letter to the secretary of the Kano emirate council,.

Penpushing reports that, Abba, a half-brother to the sacked Emir, did not give reasons for his action, and also voluntarily relinquished his traditional title of ‘Falakin Kano’.

The letter read in part: “I write formally to inform you that from Monday March 9th, 2020, I have voluntarily resigned my position from principal private secretary of Sarkin Kano Muhammad Sanusi ll. In addition I have also voluntarily relinquished the title of Falakin Kano.

“I hereby wish to express my sincere gratitude to the emirate council for offering me opportunity to serve and I also thank the entire staff of the emirate council for the cooperation they rendered to me during the period of my service. Please accept the assurance of my esteemed regards always.”

Penpushing further reports that, Kano State Government explained   that Sanusi, was on Monday deposed over alleged insubordination adding that the Executive Council unanimously approved his removal.

“The Emir of Kano is in total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the State Governor and other lawful authorities, including his persistent refusal to attend official meetings and programmes organised by the Government without any lawful justification which amount to insubordination,” ,the statement said.

“It is on record and in so many instances Mallam Muhammad Sanusi II has been found breaching part 3 section 13 (a-e) of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and which if left unchecked will destroy the good and established image of the Kano Emirate,”

Penpushing also reports that, number of residents and other Nigerians see the Kano Government’s action as the Governor’s way of getting at Sanusi who is believed to have worked against the Governor’s re-election last year.

The deposed and banished former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, in his reaction called on residents and all title holders and palace officials to support his successor, Ado Bayero, stressing that his removal was an act of destiny.

Penpushing reports that, Sanusi who has been banished to Nasarawa State after his dethronement said, with almost six years on this throne and (in charge of) our heritage. Today, the almighty Allah, who gave me the leadership, has destined to take it back,”

“As I always say, leadership has predetermined tenure, the days Allah destined are numbered. When the days come to an end one must leave. We have accepted whatever Allah decides. We have agreed. We appreciate (God). We are happy and we know it is what is best for us.”

“We enjoin everyone to remain peaceful. We have directed our family, our children and those that support us that whoever gets it and is endorsed by the people they should pay allegiance to him. They should follow him (the new emir). They should guard his honour and dignity because that is also the honour and dignity of this palace.”

Penpushing further reports that, the former in affirming his ties to his grandfather who was deposed in similar way in 1963, expressed happiness for practicing his reign in accordance with that of Emir Sanusi, adding that, ’It is a thing of pride that made us to rule and end in the same fashion as Halifa,” he said using his grandfather’s sobriquet.

Meanwhile,the immediate past  former Emir  expressed his thanks to the people of Kano, titleholders, lieutenants and friends for their support and affection during his reign.
