Sack era: Legislators forum wades into Lagos Assembly Crisis
The Lagos Legislators Forum, which is the official body of all former lawmakers of the State House of Assembly has waded into the internal wrangling said to be ongoing on at the Assembly,and expressed concern over the ugly development.
Penpushing reports that the proposed intervention was contain in a statement by the spokesman of the forum, Hon. Ahmed Ipoola Omisore, at the end of the forum’s monthly meeting, with appeal on the parties involved to settle the matter amicably in the best interest of good governance in the State.
The forum also requested that the Speaker, Chief Mudasiru Obasa, should ensure that peace reigns, so as to sustain the standards of diligence and good image that the State legislature is noted for since the creation of the state.
Penpushing further reports that, the statement added that the forum under the leadership of the Speaker of the 3rd Assembly, Alhaji Rasheed Fashina, has proposed a visit to the Chambers, so as to further intervene in the matter.
The Lagos State Assembly, it is recalled on March 9, suspended Messrs Olanrewaju Oshun representing Lagos Mainland constituency 2 and Raheem Adewale representing Ibeju Lekki constituency 2 indefinitely for alleged gross misconduct, insubordination and actions capable of tarnishing the image of the House.
Penpushing also reports that, the Speaker of the House, Chief Mudashiru Obasa personally moved the motion suspending the lawmakers, and similarly the Chief Whip of the House, Mr Rotimi Abiru and the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Olumuyiwa Jimoh were removed as principal officers.
The removal of the members followed the submission of a letter signed by twenty-six of the forty lawmakers seeking a change of leadership and read during plenary by the Clerk of the House, Azeez Sanni.
Penpushing reports that, less than 24 hours, the lawmakers after plenary elected Noheem Adams from Eti-Osa constituency 1 as the new Deputy Majority Leader while Mrs. Mojisola Merandah representing Apapa constituency 1 was elected as the new Chief Whip.
The Speaker, in a statement days after, said the removal of two principal officers and the suspension of two others was a measure to ensure that the legislature remains strengthened and its sanctity maintained.
