Rape saga: Broadcasters rally round colleague

The Freelance and Independent Broadcaster Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) Ondo State Chapter said the allegation against Olugbenga Filani, one of its members over rape, was aimed to blackmail him.

Penpushing reports that, the association stated this in a statement issued by the Chairman, Femi Oguntuase in defence of Filani who produces documentary programme, known as Owuye on number of radio stations in the South-West.

The body, however, explained that it frowned at rape in its entirety, describing it as crime against humanity, as well as sin in the eye of God, but pleaded with the police to do through investigation on the issue

‘The Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) Ondo State Chapter wishes to respond to the trending media reports of the alleged rape case involving one of our members Chief Olugbenga Filani of Owuye game as an association we strongly condemn in its entirety any form of RAPE because it’s not only against humanity but also a sin in the eye of Almighty God’.

‘Never the less, hearing his side of the story, the accused (Gbenga Filani) maintained the whole issue is nothing but a stage-managed set-up to blackmail him considering the nature of programme presentation, and some people are hell-bent of bringing him down at all cost’, Oguntuase said.

Penpushing further reports that, the association posited, that considering the circumstances surrounding the case and the people that are involved in the whole issue, it of great concern to note that from the point of law Filani is an innocent until he’s proven guilty in competent court of law.

‘As a responsible, professional and law abiding association we are willing and ready to work with the police to establish fact (s) and to make sure justice is saved at the end of the day irrespective of the people involved. We appreciate police for being polite and professional’.
