Prince allegedly plots assassination of father
A Prince in Oja-Odan area located in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State has been fingered in a plot to assassinate his father, who is the traditional ruler of Gbokoto town, just as six suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged crime.
Penpushing reports that the prince who is now on the run was alleged to have engaged the service of cultists to terminate the life of his father in the palace, but luck ran against the alleged cultists who were apprehended during a shoot-out with the police.
The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed this in a statement, adding that the suspected members of Eiye cult group committed the crime on Sunday in the palace.
Penpushing further reports that, he gave identities of the suspects as include Michael Ayodele, Monday Samuel, Ademola Matthew, Hammed Jelili, Ogundele Ojeh and Sunkanmi Fadina , who were arrested following a distress call received at Oja odan divisional headquarters from the monarch.
The statement said, the royal father, Oba G.O Olukunle, of Gbokotoland had put a distress call to the police at about 4:25 pm, that some cultists were about to kill him in his palace, adding that upon the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, Oja- Odan division, quickly mobilized his men and moved to the palace, where they met the hoodlums shooting sporadically within the palace.
Penpushing also reports that, Oyeyemi said the policemen engaged them in shootout and eventually subdued the cultists, leading to the arrest of six amongst them, explaining that on interrogation, the arrested suspects confessed been members of the dreaded Eiye confraternity.
The police spokesman said the suspects also informed the police that, it was the son of the traditional ruler who is now at large that invited them to come and eliminate his father because of an unresolved issue the monarch has been having with his mother.
Penpushing reports that, Oyeyemi added that recovered from the suspects are; one locally made double barrel pistol, two live cartridges and one expended cartridge, while the son of the royal father who has taken to flight was said to have escaped with another gun belonging to the group.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation with the view to charge them to court on the conclusion of the investigation, and also ordered a massive manhunt for the fleeing son of the monarch in order to bring him to justice.
