Policeman arrested for demanding sex from suspect

A policeman, Daniel Edet with the Akwa Ibom Command has been arrested for allegedly demanding sex and money from a suspect to help effect her bail, while discreet investigation of the officer has commenced.

Penpushing reports that, the Command Public Relations Officer, Odiko MacDon, confirmed the development   in a statement, adding that the action of the police constable was sequel to a social media video made by Zion Umoh, alleging that the police constable, solicited sex and collected N60,000 to release a suspect on bail.

The police spokesman added further that, based on  Umoh’s allegation, the Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, Andrew Amiengheme, ordered the arrest and discreet investigation of the officer.

Penpushing also reports that, McDon disclosed that, the Commissioner of Police has assured that the officer would be punished if found guilty, adding that preliminary facts available to the police showed that on June 17, at about 11:45 p.m., while on patrol within Abak circuits in Abak Local Government Area, a team of police operatives accosted a motorcycle carrying five passengers.

The police spokesman said when the motorcycle and the passengers were searched, the police recovered a live cartridge from   25 year -old Godwin Wilson, a bar attendant who rode the motorcycle.

Penpushing reports that, MacDon said the bar attendant, on interrogation, claimed he picked the cartridge at the bar where he sells after the birthday celebration of a man identified as Morris Sunday.

The police spokesperson added that  they were all arrested and taken to the station and detained till the following morning when they were interrogated by the area commander,adding that they were all warned and granted bail, except the bar attendant  who was found with a live cartridge.

Penpushing further reports that the command spokesman  said the suspect was taken to court ,explaining that he  was returned to police custody because as at that time  the courts were not in session.
