POLICE SUMMON NIGERIAN SENATE PRESIDENT OVER MURDER OF 31 PERSONS
The Police said the suspects arrested in the attack confessed to being sponsored by the Senate President, describing it as the most deadly armed robbery in the country’s history.
Penpushing recalled that, Saraki was previously summoned by the police in June, but the invitation was abruptly withdrawn and was subsequently required to submit his response to the allegations in writing.
The summon letter which was made available to Penpushing on Monday night, the police circulated a June 23, 2018 letter which the Inspector General of Police wrote to the Senate President, asking him to report to clarify grey areas in his statement.
The letter also stated further that, Saraki had said in his statement that he would not comment on the purported confession of the suspects since he was not privy to the specifics of their statements.
Saraki according to the police would now have the chance to read the statements of his accusers when he appear at the Intelligence Response Team in Guzape neighbourhood, Abuja,just as he was asked to come by 8:00 a.m. on July 24.
Penpushing recalled that, Saraki had earlier expressed his readiness to honour the previous one issued to him until the police withdrew it by themselves. He also vehemently maintained his innocence, emphasizing that the police allegations were watery and politically-motivated.
However, in reaction to the invitation, Saraki said it was a mere afterthought by the police designed to achieve political purpose,adding that he had it on good authority that the police had already decided on the suspects to arraign in court on Wednesday based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution,U.E Mohammed
The Senate President in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, emphasized that the turn around to invite him{Saraki}was a ploy aimed at scoring cheap political points
