Police summon Adetoun over alleged defamatory statement against Governor Abiodun

The Ogun State Police Command has summoned a blogger, Adetoun for alleged defamatory comments against Governor Dapo Abiodun and disseminating falsehood on social media over the accident involving world boxing champion, Anthony Joshua along Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Penpushng reports that the Command Public Relations Officer, Seyi Babaseyi confirmed this on Wednesday explaining that the invitation of the lady was based on a petition against her in regards the contents of her statement against the Governor.

The police spokesperson added that the blogger is expected to come to the Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital as soon as practicable to aid investigation into the petition

‘She has been invited based on a petition against her and she is to come in as soon as practicable to aid investigation into the petition’, the police spokesperson told Penpushing Media.

Penpushing further reports that it would be recalled that the lady  in her remarks said Ogun State Government has no single ambulance, and insinuated that Joshua might have died but for the intervention of the Lagos State Government

The blogger who was said to have called the governor unprinted names added that the Governor abandoned Joshua and was in Ghana attending parties and impregnating women instead of responding to the emergency.

Penpushing also reports that in response to her claim, Special Adviser to Governor on Communications, Kayode Akinmade said the blogger is notorious for falsehood, adding that her conduct goes beyond misinformation, but amounts to criminal defamation and incitement, capable of provoking public anger and disorder

Penpushing reports that Akinmade added that Adetoun is a professional blackmailer masquerading as blogger and thrive on falsehood, sensationalism, and deliberate mischief, weaponising misinformation to gain attention, relevance, and money. In the process

The statement emphasised that in the process, the lady undermines public trust, endanger social cohesion, and threaten public order, adding that without a shred of evidence she claimed that Governor Dapo Abiodun abandoned Joshua and was in Ghana attending parties and impregnating women instead of responding to the emergency.

Penpushing further reports that Akinmade explained that these claims are not only false; they are reckless, defamatory, and inciting, emphasizing that contrary to the falsehood the Governor was with Joshua within minutes of the accident, personally coordinating the emergency response and stayed with him for hours in hospital.

‘She claimed that Ogun State does not have a single ambulance. Contrary to these assertions, Ogun State has made measurable, documented, and nationally recognised progress in emergency medical response’.

‘The state currently operates 26 Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances, strategically deployed across urban and rural areas, supported by 16 ambulance points that ensure 24-hour coverage. These services have saved lives repeatedly, as borne out by consistent media reports’.

‘Ogun State Ambulance Service, offering statewide coverage—Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, Ota, and other major towns—with free emergency transport within the first 48 hours under the BHCPF scheme’, Akinmade said.

‘Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Ambulance Service, providing 24/7 emergency dispatch and inter-facility referrals.  Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta Ambulance Service, covering Abeokuta and surrounding LGAs.’, he added

‘Babcock University Teaching Hospital Ambulance Service, offering round-the-clock emergency and referral services. Rural Maternal Health Emergency Transportation (R-MHET) scheme, which deploys tricycle ambulances for obstetric emergencies and antenatal transport in rural communities’.
