Police remains least corrupt agency in Nigeria, says command’s spokesman
The Ogun State Police Command has declared that police is the least corrupt agency in Nigeria, contrary to insinuations that the organization is enmeshed in various corrupt practices and other vices in the society.
Penpushing reports that, the Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi made the declaration on Sunday while delivering a paper of security at the 29th anniversary of Prestige Newspapers held at Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre, Abeokuta
‘Police is the least corrupt agency in Nigeria. Police are magnanimous and we should rise up to support police for betterment of the society. We should all stop playing lip service to security. I am repeating police are the list corrupt agency’, Oyeyemi emphasized
Penpushing further reports that, he agreed that there are bad eggs in all organizations, explaining that police on its part has internal mechanism in flushing out bad eggs, and cited number of examples of officers dismissed and prosecuted for crimes.
The police spokesman while buttressing his claims tasked Nigerians to make comparison between police and other agencies in regards discipline against erring officials, and posited that, it was uncalled for anybody to tagged police as most corrupt
‘Stop seeing police as outcast. Police deserves all best support. Don’t leave security to police alone; we must see police as our own. No police can succeed without cooperation of the citizens. Security is business of everybody’, Oyeyemi stressed.
Penpushing also reports that, the command image maker admitted shortage of manpower and technology as parts of the obstacles affecting police performances in Nigeria, contrary to other development nations with adequate manpower and technology to aid detect of crimes
The Public Relations Officer explained that even with these established obstacles among others, the police in Nigeria worked round the clock to fight crimes and criminals, adding with the stress being face daily, police are more prone to hypertension.
