Police discover 20 mummified corpses in Edo state

The Edo State Police Command has discovered 20 mummified corpses stacked in a room inside a building along Asoro slope, off Ekenhua Road, Uzebu quarters, Benin City, the state capital

Penpushing report that, the Command Public Relations Officer, Jennifer Iwegbu, made this known in a statement, adding that the discovery was made on Wednesday following a tip-off,adding that the building may have been used as a shrine for ritual killings.

The police spokesperson said out of the 20, 15 are male corpses, three are female, while two are children, adding that three suspects identified as Chimaobi Okoewu ,Oko Samuel and Gideon Sunday were arrested at the scene, while others fled

“At the scene, three suspects, Chimaobi Okoewu ‘M’ and Oko Samuel ‘M’ both of Afikpo in Ebonyi and Gideon Sunday ‘M’ of Akwa Ibom State, were arrested, while others fled. An intensive effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects,” she said.

Penpushing further reports that, a video clip posted on Twitter showed the corpses stacked in a room, while some corpses were kept in an upright position, close to the wall, others were in a lying position.

The Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro,  as at the time of the discovery and filing this reports has appealed to the public to remain calm, assuring that the police command are investigating the shocking discovery.
