Police arrests three students of Dowen College over death of colleague

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three students of Dowen College ,Lekki,Lagos, in connection with the controversial death of a 12-year-old student of the school Sylvester Oromoni Junior.

Penpushing reports that, the Command Public Relations Officer Adekunle Ajisebutu confirmed this on Tuesday, but did not disclose the identities of arrested students said to be in custody ,just as the authorities also stated that it will be visiting Delta State for a post mortem of the deceased body to ascertain cause of the death..

The arrest of the students, came, as the state’s chief coroner responded to the request by the family’s lawyer over the request for coroner inquest into the circumstances leading to the death Oromoni.

Penpushing further reports that, it is recalled that the bereaved family had insisted that Oromoni before breathing his last had mentioned five senior students of the college to have allegedly tortured him over his refusal to join a secret cult.

The bereaved father, Sylvester Oromoni Snr, in the same vein disclosed that his late son confided in him that he was handed a substance to drink, and therefore petitioned the police through a law firm headed  by Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria to pursue their case.

Penpushing also reports that, Falana took a further step on behalf of the bereaved family requesting a coroner inquest into the circumstances leading to the death, and in response Lagos State Chief Coroner, Justice M.A Dada said Wednesday, December 15 has been fixed for the preliminary meeting ahead of the requested inquest.

The letter dated December 7, 2021, and signed by Mikail Kadiri on behalf of the Chief Coroner by the Coroner for Epe District of the State fixed the meeting for 11a.m. at the “Magistrate Court No. 4, Chambers of the Coroner, Epe District.”

Penpushing reports that, it is recalled that, the untimely death of the boy was made public by his cousin Perrison Oromoni, who on social media narrated how the boy had died and went as far as calling out the names of his cousin’s alleged killers.
