Police arrest Okorocha’s son- in-law during church service
The Police on Sunday stormed Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Nkwerre and effected the arrest of Uche Nwosu, son-in-law to former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, said to be holding a thanksgiving service for his late mother buried three days ago.
Penpushing reports that, an aide to the arrested man, Darlington Ibekwe, claimed that the security personnel assaulted his boss before whisking him away, adding that the operatives came in three vehicles.
The aide also claimed that Nwosu was slapped, and the operatives pushed to the ground Okorocha’s wife, Nkechi, and her daughter, Uloma, who isNwosu’s wife when the duo tried to enquire why they were arresting him.
“We were at St Paul’s Anglican Church when we saw some vehicles, a Hilux, a white Hyundai H1 and a Ford Explorer arrived with police officers. These security men came into the church, slapped Ugwumba (Nwosu) and told him, ‘my friend stand up and follow us’,he said.”
Penpushing further reports that, Ibekwe said while Nwosu was trying to inquire from the security men why he was being embarrassed in such a manner , he was further assaulted over his effontery.
‘They beat him up, tore his shirt and dragged him out of the church like a common criminal. Senator Okorocha’s wife stood up and asked them what was going on, they slapped her and pushed her to the floor. Nwosu’s wife Uloma also tried to ask what was going on but they also slapped her and pushed her to the floor’, he stated.
“They tore Mr Nwosu’s clothes, continued beating him till they put him in the car and drove off. They fired live bullets and the shells can be seen on the ground everywhere on the road before they zoomed off, the aide added
Penpushing also reports that, Ibekwe said the security men claimed they came from Abuja, but that they told him that they were taking him (Nwosu) to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Owerri.
The aide in a live video feed on his Facebook page, captured where a man believed to be Nwosu, was being dragged into a car by the armed police officers, while the operatives fired gunshots in the air as they whisked the man into a waiting car and zoomed off.
Penpushing reports that, the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Michael Abattam has confirmed the arrest of Nwosu, who they claimed was in their custody as at the time of filing this report, and not kidnapped as being speculated
“This is to inform the general public that Chief Uche Nwosu was not kidnapped but was arrested by the police and Imo state police command is aware of the arrest and presently he is in police custody, This is to refute the earlier news that has been making rounds on social media that he was kidnapped by unknown gunmen”, he explained
Penpushing further reports that, as at the time of issuing out statement to confirm custody of Nwosu ,the police command did not, however, give reasons for the arrest, while it is on record that the imcumbent Governor of the stateof , Hope Uzodinma, and his predecessor, Okorocha, who is now a senator, have been engaged in a prolonged political battle.
