University of Offa appoints Fola Lasisi as maiden Pro-Chancellor
The Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Uyo and Crescent University, Abeokuta, Professor Fola Lasisi, has been appointed as the maiden Pro-Chancellor of the University of Offa,Kwara State
Penpushing reports that the privately owned university in a bulletin made the appointments, which also has Prof Raheem Lawal as Vice Chancellor into its Governing Council and Management.
The Pro-Chancellor will chair a council of 6 other members, all Professors in various knowledge disciplines and they include Professors T.O. Ashaolu, A. A. Adesoye, Charles Okojie, N.Y. S. Ijaiya ,Odunola Bakare and Grace Akinola.
Penpushing further reports that, the Pro-Chancellor-elect, is a Professor of Structural Engineering, is a trail blazer Vice chancellor having served as pioneer Vice Chancellor in two Universities: University of Uyo (1991-2000) and Crescent University, Abeokuta (2000-2007).
The elected Pro-Vice Chancellor was Chairman, Committee of Vice – Chancellors of Nigerian Universities 1996-1997,and a Fellow of various professional bodies including Nigerian Society of Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, Nigerian Institute of Agricultural Engineers, and the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, as well as immediate Past President of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering.
Penpushing also reports that, in similar vein, the Vice Chancellor-elect is a renown poet and language developer who had been at various times Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, and Foundation President, Nigeria Association of Language Educators.
Meanwhile, the university Proprietor, Dr RasaqOyewale who is Chairman of its Board of Trustees, explained that by these appointments, the University may open its gates to admit staff and students any moment from now.
