Peter Obi’s supporters attacked at Lagos State campaign
The supporters of the Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, were on Saturday reportedly attacked on their way to his campaign rally at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos State, with four of them sustaining injuries.
Penpushing reports that videos circulating on social media, showed that the supporters were attacked with machetes and other objects as they made their way to the venue of the campaign, with one of the vehicles reportedly vandalized by thugs.
The attack was reported by the party’s ward chairman in Jakande at the Ilasan police division, as sources said some of Obi’s supporters were already seated at Tafawa Balewa Squad(TBS) waiting for his arrival while others assembled at Ikeja axis of the state
Penpushing further reports before the arrival of the party flagbearer at the venue, he had met with some traders and supporters at Alaba International Market, in the Ojo area of the state, while his supporters were seen chanting his name “Obi” and waved the party’s flag.
The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the attack via his Twitter handle, explaining that the attack was reported by the party’s ward chairman in Jakande at the Ilasan police division.
“Four injured persons have been given medical attention. DPO Ilasan has commenced preliminary investigations while SCID is to fully take over investigations. The injured and other witnesses are assisting the Police with relevant information that would aid the apprehension and prosecution of the attackers’, he tweeted
Penpushing also reports that Hundeyin condemned the attack, stating that as at the time of filing this report security operatives had been stationed at the venue since Friday to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
“The regrettable attack happened at about 15km away from the rally venue. As earlier stated, the SCID will take over investigations towards apprehending and prosecuting the attackers’, the police spokesman said.
