Peoples Democratic Party zones 2027 presidential ticket to South

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned the presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections to the South, a decision taken after extensive deliberations by members of the convention zoning committee of the party.

Penpushing reports that National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, made this known while reading the communique issued at the end of the National Executive Committee (NEC’s) 102nd meeting held on Monday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The National Publicity Secretary, added that the decision was to strengthen internal cohesion and ensure equity, a move said to effectively shuts the door on aspirants from the North, while it would be recalled that the last time the party produced a president from the South was during the tenure of Goodluck Jonathan, who served until 2015.

Penpushing further reports that the zoning of the presidential ticket to the South revives the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) tradition of rotating the presidency between the North and South, a policy that many within the party believe is critical for maintaining national balance and inclusiveness.
