The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) said it was exciting to members that the government increased the wage by N20,000 across board to all the pensioners in the state, with effect from October, 2024, recalling that such increase in the wage of the pensioners was last witnessed 16 years ago.

Penpushing further reports that the union profusely appreciated the sincerity of purpose, love, friendliness and Godliness of the Governor to them, describing him as an amiable leader, supporter and pensioners-friendly who has their welfare at heart.

‘The Executive Council and the entire membership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ogun State Council, hereby express heartfelt gratitude to our compassionate Executive Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for your kindness and consideration at all times towards us, the Ogun State retirees’, the letter read.

“We express deep sense of appreciation for the N20,000.00 wage increase that has been paid across board to all Pensioners, beginning from the month of October, 2024”, the union emphasized in the letter.

Penpushing also reports that the retirees pointed out that the lofty gestures by the Governor include: prompt and regular payment of monthly pensions, steady release of accrued gratuities, financial gestures and supply of rice at highly subsidised rate to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal, amongst others.

The union, however, solicited for more attention especially in the area of the consequential review in pensions in line with the Federal Government Circular on Consequential Adjustment of Pensions.

Penpushing reports that it is recalled that Ogun State Governor recently released the sum of N5 billion to offset parts of the backlog of gratuities owed by successive administration in the state while the state pensioners had also received the October salaries with the new minimum wage of additional N20,000 being celebrated with salary alerts by the retirees
