Penpushing media mourns frontline stakeholder, Prof Oye Ibidapo-Obe
Penpushing media has mourned the demise of former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and a frontline stakeholders of Penpushing platform, Prof Oye Ibidapo-Obe which occurred on Sunday evening in Lagos
Penpushing reports that, the late cerebral Professor was the first guest lecturer at the maiden edition of the organisation’s annual anniversary lecture held at Marque events centre, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, four years ago.
The Chairman, Editorial board of Penpushing, Olufunke Fadugba said the death of the Professor was a big loss to the Penpushing family, and the academic world, lamenting that, ’this is very sad. This Covid is really depopulating the world’
The founder of Penpushing Media, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji who is cousin to the late Professor lamented the sudden exit, stressing that he could not believe the sad incident, recalling that he still spoke with him on phone few days ago, and there was no sign of death
‘Am sad over this. I still spoke with him few days ago. I am shocked to bone marrow. My cousin is gone. This is sad moment for me. I have lost a reliable and valuable family member. It’s really sad. He was our first guest lecturer at the maiden edition of Penpushing Annual Anniversary Lecture. I pray God grant him eternal rest’, Kayode-Adedeji wrote
Penpushing also reports that, members of the platform eulogized the late academic and they include; Engr Dideolu Falobi who wrote, ‘a few days ago I appealed to all in respect of the danger of COVID-19.On Tuesday, Nigeria lost erudite Prof Femi Odekunle to COVID-19.
‘Today, Nigeria lost another erudite scholar, my lecturer, mentor and older friend, Prof Oye Ibidapo –Obe to COVID-19. Personally, he was the sixth person I have lost to COVID-19 between Dec 26, 2020 and today. What more can I say?’, he lamented
‘COVID-19 is real, highly contagious and can be fatal. Please observe all the necessary protocols. May the souls of the departed Rest In Peace and May God grant their family the fortitude to bear the loss’, Falobi said.
Penpushing further reports that, Yinka Almona in her comments said, Broda Oye oh!! Nobody to fight with again. I was so sure he will make it, and Toyosi Craig lamented saying,’I also still chat with him when I arrived the country recently.. I am still in shock and seems unbelievable.If this is true.. So sorry for the loss’

May his soul rest in perfect peace and the Lord comfort the family left behind and Funso Akinwande lamented saying, ‘It is sad. This is a good father. A humble father. May his soul rest in perfect peace’

God have mercy. It is becoming one too many. May God grant Prof Ibidapo-Obe eternal rest and his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss’
The former Military Administrator of Ogun State, who is also a member of Penpushing platform lamented thus,’Very sad, the death of Prof Ibidapo Obe. He played his own part well in the development of our nation. Eternal light shine on to his soul. Oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. May Almighty God comfort the family that he left behind.
Penpushing further reports that, Bimbo Alagbe in his comments said,’Prof Ibidapo-Obe’s passage at this time is a huge loss to the nation. As an academic, he passionately contributed to the growth and positive ratings of Unilag’.
‘He believed in the ideals of Penpushing and offered to deliver the maiden celebration lecture and had attended all other anniversaries even when it is not convenient. He throws the whole of his being into whatever cause he believes in and so it is sad that he couldn’t stay a little longer for us to benefit from his experience,particularly now that the education mountain is facing a major challenge. We can only bid him farewell and pray that his family and friends be comforted with joy of the Lord. We will surely miss him’,Alagbe wrote
Penpushing reports that, Prof Yemisi Obilade who was shocked about the news in her comments wrote,’ Haa!!! Prof bawo? Erin wo, the elephant has fallen, an erudite scholar is gone, and Segun Ojelade in his own remarks said, ’May the good Lord grant his soul eternal rest, while Bayo Sobande wrote,’Ah, this is sad! I commiserate with you, the immediate family, Penpushing. Though an irreparable loss, the Lord will give succour to everyone in Jesus name. Amen, and Yusuph Olaniyonu in his remarks said, ‘May Allah takes care of the family the Prof left behind. He provided good leadership in UNILAG and continued to contribute to the revival of the wobbling education system after his tenure. He will be sorely missed’.
The death of Ibidapo-Obe, was confirmed in statement by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council of First Technical University, Ibadan, Olayinka Balogun where the deceased was the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council.
“With heavy heart, and submission to the will of God I write to inform Council members of the transition to glory of Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, First Technical University, Ibadan which occurred today 03/01/2021. I pray for the repose of the soul of the departed.”
Penpushing reports that, the Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe and Chairman of the Academic Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) on the campus, Dele Ashiru also confirmed the death.
The Chairman of the Academic Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) said the late Professor had been receiving treatment at an undisclosed Lagos hospital for about 10 days before he was pronounced dead on Sunday evening.
“Yes, Prof Ibidapo-Obe is dead. He died today from COVID-19-related complications. The late professor’s family has properly briefed us,” Mr Ashiru said in a phone interview.
Penpushing also reports that, the late 71 year old Ijesa was a Professor of Applied Mechanics and Systems Engineering, was the University of Lagos Vice-Chancellor between 2000 and 2007.
