Ogun state lawmaker, Awoso releases N1, 992,000 to enlist 166 constituents for Health Insurance Scheme

A member of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Adegoke Awoso has released the sum of N1, 992,000 to enlist 166 members of his constituency for the recently launched Health Insurance Scheme for  the state indigenes

Penpushing reports that, Awoso representing Yewa North State Constituency 1 released cheque for the payment on Tuesday, to the Ministry of Health, in company of  some leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) which include Chiefs  Adeosun Olu Agemo and Hon. (Chief) Bisiriyu Bayo Popoola.

The lawmaker popularly called ‘The Authentic Tripple A’, while presenting the cheque, noted that the quest to enlist 166 members is borne out of support to the  noiseless and hardworking Governor  Dapo Abiodun in his mission to reposition the  State Health Sector.

Penpushing further reports that, Awoso  added that the Governor inherited a health sector that was in comatose and had so far renovated  and equipped over sixty primary health centres with additional 60 centres recently approved in January,2022 in fulfillment of the promise to renovate at least one primary health centre in each ward under four years.

The assemblyman pointed out that, but for coronavirus pandemic, over 150 primary health centres would have be renovated by now out of the 236 wards, stating  that the renovation figure is different from that of General Hospitals and Teaching Hospitals that are currently ongoing lots of renovation and equipping.

Penpushing also reports that Commissioner for Health, Dr Tommy Coker while collecting the cheque expressed her gratitude to the lawmaker for his extremely kind gestures, noting that he has laid a good example by being the first person to massively subscribe people for the scheme from both the private, public and political sectors

The Commissioner enjoined other political office holders to take a cue from Awoso, who is the Chairman House Committee on Health, and enlist members of their constituencies while submitting that the primary purpose of Government is the welfare of the people.


Penpushing reports that, the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme which is an initiative of Governor Abiodun  was launched on Thursday February 3rd 2022, established to ensure that fund will not be a constraint in accessing good and affordable healthcare services amongst indigenes most especially during emergencies.

The Scheme is developed in line with international best practices where both Federal and State Governments jointly subsidize healthcare service, and to subscribe for the scheme, individual will pay N12, 000 per annum and N48, 000 per annum for a family of four children.

Penpushing further recalled that Abiodun  during the official launching of the scheme, enjoined all private sectors, philanthropists, political appointees and elected members to also use the medium to help the less privileged in their society by getting the card for them

The lawmaker, it is also recalled  on his own volition renovated and equipped over 10 Primary Health Centres/Hospitals across his constituency on 19th December, 2019, and these include General hospital Ayetoro,Ijaka- Oke primary health center,Ijaka- Isale primary health center.

Penpushing also reports that others are: Igan Okoto primary health center, primary health center Agboro Ayetoro, primary health center Imasayi, primary health center Joga, primary health centerIboro, primary health center Igbogila,primary health center Komioba Ibese, Sawonjo primary health centre and renovation of Agboro and Komi-Oba health center toilet with modern facilities.

The lawmaker in same vein donated items which include iron bed, mattresses, filled oxygen cylinder, baby and adults scale, kerosene stove, B.P measurement device, new Generating Sets and also extended similar gestures to the Federal Medical Centre annex in Joga Orile where he also made cash available for free eye operation and prescription of contact lens in November 2021.
