OYO WORKERS EMBARK ON INDEFINITE STRIKE
The gate to the secretariat was half locked as workers stayed away from their various offices within the Secretariat with only the security guards attached to the secretariat sighted around.
Penpushing further reports that all the public schools across the State both primary and Secondary Schools were shut down in compliance with the strike directive, and as at the time of sending this report, majority of the striking workers were seen at the Oyo State labour congress secretariat awaiting update on the strike from their leaders monitoring the strike.
It will be recalled that Oyo State Chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in a memo released late Thursday to all its members and its affiliate unions mandated them to commence strike with immediate effect
Penpushing also reports that, the memo signed by the State Secretary of the Congress, Comrade Mohamed Ibrahim, the union declared that the strike would be in force until further notice.
The three-paragraph statement titled “Commencement of Indefinite Strike”, stated “it is highly unfortunate that the State Government has decided to write us without finding concrete solutions to the deteriorating plight of workers of Oyo state.”
“Consequently, in line with the notice earlier served on the government, all workers should embark on an indefinite strike from midnight of Thursday, 23 May 2019 .The strike will remain in force until further directives are conveyed,” .
