Oyo state police Command denies attack on station in Ibadan, admits bandits shot two officers

The Oyo State Police Command has denied attack on Ikolaba Police station in Ibadan, where unknown gunmen were said to have killed a police officer and injured another

Penpushing reports that the Command Public Relations Officer ,Olugbenga Fadeyi in a statement explained that,  two policemen attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ikolaba, Ibadan Oyo State were at the opposite side of the road to the Police station when they were attacked by hoodlums in an unidentified moving vehicle.

The statement said the gunmen opened fire on the policemen, noting that the attention of the Commissioner of Police, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, have been drawn to the panic trending story on social media that dare devil gunmen attacked Ikolaba Police Station on the 21st August, 2020, saying that the Ikolaba Police station was not attacked.

“Two of our officers were at the opposite side of the road to the Police station were attacked by hoodlums in an unidentified moving vehicle who opened fire on them.Consequent upon this, one Cpl Dada Christopher was hit by the pellets at the right side of the rib and he died on the spot, while Inspr Busuyi Ayodele was also hit at his back and he sustained injury, while he was subsequently rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention’.

Penpushing further reports that  Fadeyi added that the station guard AK-47 rifle with 24 rounds of ammunition were taken away by the hoodlums, stating that the  Commissioner has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations to visit the scene for on the spot assessment of the incident.

The police spokesman added that a matching order has been giving to all Police Tactical teams including the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS), Swift Response Squad (SRS), SKYNET Squad, Federal and Safer Highway patrol teams, Puff Adder team to be on the trail of the hoodlums.

Penpushing also reports that, the statement said all other patrol teams within and outside Ibadan metropolis was also placed on red alert to clamp down on the assailants and equally arrest them when seen.

The police boss however said that the command will not relent in its efforts to protect the lives and properties of the citizenry and ensure that they operate and carry out their lawful businesses in a safe and secure environment.

Penpushing reports that, the commissioner, therefore called on the members of the public to continue to partner with the Police to engender a better service delivery.
