Owu High Chief, Michael Ogunseye records another feat, conferred with abeokuta sports club prestigious award

A frontline member of National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), United Kingdom Chapter, and Baagbimo of Owu Kingdom, Chief Michael Kolawole Ogunseye has added another feather to his cap, as he was honoured with a prestigious award by Abeokuta Sports Club.

Penpushing reports that the award ceremony which was the initiative of Almond Section of the club founded in 1904 took place at the club house located in Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

The United Kingdom based accountant was represented by his wife Chief (Mrs) Toyin Ogunseye at the colourful and well attended ceremony, as musician known as Segun Showunmi was on bandstand to entertain the guests and equally praised the awardee to high heaven with melodious tunes.

Penpushing further reports that the club leadership explained that the award was bestowed on Ogunseye in recognition of his exceptional support and commitment towards the upliftment of the Almond Tree Section of the oldest club in West Africa.

‘The outstanding award is in recognition of your exceptional support and commitment for the success of the section calendar over the past years. Your invaluable contributions have greatly enhanced the growth and visibility of our initiatives’, the award read.

Penpushing also reports that the award plague was presented to Ogunseye by President of Abeokuta Sports Club, Commander Seni Ogunyemi, who equally affirmed the supportive role of the awardee in the upliftment of the section.

The Chairman of the Committee Gbolade Badejo in his welcome address explained that the award was part of ceremony for the new year party, members birthday party and induction of new members by the section.

Penpushing reports that Badejo describing the events as 4-in-1 emphasised that its equally a programme designed ahead of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which will produce set of new executives in February, stressing that it is a known fact that the section is waxing stronger.

The Chairman of the Almond Section, Dr Korede Alabi in his own speech expressed appreciation to all members, affirming that they have been supportive in all ramifications towards the success of his administration as well as the club.

‘I also want to use this opportunity to say that my tenure is coming to an end soon. We have served diligently; new officers will come on board in February. We are also optimistic that we are forging ahead as united family’, Alabi stated.

Penpushing further reports that the former Nigerian Ambassador to United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Isola who is a member of the club in his goodwill remarks said he was proud to be a member of the club, which he pointed out paraded qualitative individuals.

‘I am impressed and honoured to be part. Almond tree section is best among others. Abeokuta Sports Club in general is what we all cherished. If you want to choose a federal cabinet, Abeokuta Sports Club is a good place to pick. We have accomplished people with integrity’, he said

‘I am proud to be a member of the Abeokuta Sports Club. I will continue to do my best towards its developmental growth. I also want to use this opportunity to suggest consideration for intellectual discourse at least on monthly basis’, Isola added

Penpushing also reports that some notable dignitaries which include top shots of the club in attendance include; Chief Niyi Adegbenro, Chief Lai Amoje, Ogo-Oluwa Bankole, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, Commander Seni Ogunyemi, Dr Kehinde Osinfade, Sesan Okutoro and Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji (Founder Penpushing Media) among others

The profile of Almond Section of the club has it that it was initiated in July 1993 by a few members of Abeokuta Sports Club who had a common goal then to share ideas, views and thoughts following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election that was thought by many Nigerians, including members of Abeokuta Sports Club as fairly won by Bashorun Moshood Abiola.

Penpushing reports that the record added that the group converged day and night to discuss the issues of moment then and to follow their development, and by leap and bound membership increased and more of the members got interested in discussing contemporary politics and within a social setting

‘On the 22nd of October, 1993, the then President of Abeokuta Sports Club, late Alhaji Ganiyu Egbeyemi formally inaugurated the section as the under the almond tree section of Abeokuta Sports Club’, the record said

‘This section thus became the first social section and non-game playing section to be so recognized in the club. The section did not stop at socializing alone, it has engaged in various philanthropic activities’, the profile added
