OTA/ AWORI DEMANDS AGGRESSIVE DEVELOPMENT, AS INDIGENES SET FOR OLOTA’S FIRST CORONATION ANNIVERSARY
The Chairman, Central Planning Committee for the anniversary, Fola Akinde said, ’we contribute nothing less than 70% of Internally Generated Revenue for the State. What do we get from there? Our community is the economic hub of the State. We have been fooled with promises which never see the light of the day. We have learnt our lessons’
‘We are calling on the incoming administration to consider us for positive developmental growth, considering our contributions to the revenue of the State, and our zone is leading in this aspect, with nothing less than 70% contributions’
‘I will assure you that we will not keep quiet, as we do before. We have high hopes that things will change. I am part of agitators, and we will not beg government to do the needful, but we have our own strategy. Ota cannot be relegated’, he emphasized.
Penpushing further reports that, the committee also called on the Federal Government to expedite action on the rehabilitation of Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway, noting that the road has become a nightmare for motorists, committee and business community.
The indigenes also expressed appreciation for the support of the corporate world for the development of the community, but charged them on the issues of employment for the teeming youths for the good neighbourlinness of Ota people.
The committee rolled out the programme of event for the anniversary which includes: traditional prayers, jumat service slated for May 10, with a church thanksgiving at Cathedral Church of St James on May 12.
Penpushing also reports that, other events are; visit to Ijamide Children Home, visit to State Hospital, Ota, Lecture History of Ota, all scheduled to hold on June 19, and cultural day at Olota’s palace on June 20.
The ceremony will continued on June 21, with homage paying by clubs, societies, families and cultural display by the Zongbeto cultural troupe and novelty match at St Michael African Church School, Ota, while the grandfinale will take place at Ijamide City Hall,Ota
