Osun traditional Council slams six months suspension on Oluwo, as he says suspension holds no water

The Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers on Friday suspended the controversial traditional ruler of Iwo, Oba, Abdulrosheed Akanbi, who recently enmeshed in a ‘boxing bout;, with his colleague Agboowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Dhikrulahi Akinropo.

Penpushing reports that the embattled Oluwo in swift reaction declared that, the suspension  will not stand , adding that the development will make many monarchs  not be encouraged to regard the council, adding that, ‘it is just an audio pronouncement and an insult to the state government without consultation by the council,”

The suspension order  was announced  after a three-hour meeting of the council in Osogbo presided by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, stating that Oluwo was suspended over his indecent acts” to some monarchs, including the Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi; Alake of Egbaland and the Ooni of Ife necessitated his suspension.

Penpushing further reports that, the Orangun of Ila Orangun,Oba Wahab Adedotun, who announced the sanction said: “Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi has been suspended for six months.”

The Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrosheed Akanbi, while dismissing  the  suspension said it was said it was ‘political’, stressing that, his purported suspension ”is strange to the traditional institution, book of history and will never stand”.

Penpushing also reports that, Oluwo in a statement by hiss spokesperson, Alli Ibrahim, and made available to journalists declared, “the highest level of injustice is for the council to say I was rude to the same Ooni who presided over a meeting where they said I was suspended.

“I was never suspended. The suspension reported by the media is just from the monthly Osun State Traditional Council meeting which is subject to the approval of the state government. If this should stand, many monarchs will not be encouraged to regard the council. It is just an audio pronouncement and an insult to the state government without consultation by the council,” he said.

The suspended monarch also gave further insight into the controversy, explaining that, “we were invited to address the allegation that I punched another Oba. The AIG and the government officials’ presence came to the meeting as witnesses and gave an account that I didn’t beat any Oba’.

‘Maybe because the truth from the witnesses didn’t go with their expectation, they hatched unfounded excuse to make an audio suspension. It is pure political (politics) and there are many things attached but we keep mute to see how far this will stand.”

Penpushing recalled that, Oluwo  last week Friday allegedly assaulted the Agboowu of Ogbaagba, Dhikrulahi Akinropo, over a land dispute in Iwoland ,during a peace resolution meeting at the office of the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, Zone 11, in Osogbo. Bashir Makama, who initiated the meeting.
