Osoba warns against fake news to avoid civil war in Nigeria

Former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba has cautioned against spread of fake news, which he said if not addressed may lead to civil war in Nigeria, recalling that, that was the root cause of civil war in the 60’s

Penpushing reports that, Osoba gave the caution note while featuring on Arise Television programme ‘Morning Show’ stressing that as a reporter he is worried by the incessant spread of fake news, recalling that he covered the civil war as reporter and knew what happened.

The chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC)  explained that frustration being face by the Nigerian youths, is now responsible for agitation for secession, and called the  country leaders on need to listen to the opinions of the youths.

‘Fake news caused first civil war in Nigeria, we should be cautious of disseminating fake news, I as a reporter feel worry. I covered the war, and I know what am saying  It  was fake news by AFP, and this led to massacre, a little statement can trigger situation that we cannot handle’, he emphasised

Penpushing further reports that the veteran journalist, expressed worry over the plights of the youths, who after graduating from schools cannot secure jobs, nor enjoy a good living standard, and used the opportunity for the country to adopt the 1963 constitution

‘The frustrations the younger ones are facing lead them to extreme in calling for separation. Insecurity is also there. For those of us elders we  must listen to their opinions and persuade them so that situation will not lead to civil war’,Osoba added

The former Governor explained that the 1963 constitution, need s to be reconsidered, stressing that adopting this will help the country from colapse,pointing out that the situation in the country is now beyond Boko Haram or cattle rearing with the emergence of ISWAP

‘If we are not careful, we are going beyond Boko Haram, the ISWAP emergence is dangerous. We should do away with indiscriminating statements. The issue of Nigeria is going beyond cattle rearing, nobody is safe. I wish we can go back to the 1963 constitution, it would have been beautiful going back to 1963 constitution, I wish we go back to regional system of government’, Osoba emphasised
