ON THE RUN NIGERIAN SENATOR, MELAYE SUBMITS TO POLICE SUPREMACY

The police said  Dino Melaye and his armed thugs in Kogi State on the 19th July, 2018  shot and wounded a police officer, Sgt Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) while on duty at a stop and search point along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State.

Penpushing further reports that, the authorities said in a statement that the Police Officer was yet to recover from the gunshot injury he sustained during the attack and still under intensive medical care, as at the time they wanted to arrest the Senator.

The known controversial and comical federal lawmaker while coming out of the house, slumped to the floor and was later assisted onto his feet, and was thereafter taken to the office of the Inspector General of Police  Intelligence Response Squad (IRT) in Guzape, Abuja.

Penpushing also reports that, a close associate of the Senator, Bode Gbadebo said he (Melaye) wilfully made himself available to police, adding that some of his colleagues visited him around 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, alongside his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome.

The colleagues who visited him included Boma Goodhead, a member of the House of Representatives; a Senator from Kogi, Atai Aidoko-Ali; and Philip Gyunkaankther, a senator from Nasarawa State, but as at the time of this report, it was not clear whether it was the lawmakers who convinced him to surrender to the police.

Penpushing further reports that,   Gbadebo added that some of the legislators accompanied Melaye to the police headquarters and were told the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, was not around.

The controversial Senator who is still with the police as at the time of filing this report  is also being prosecuted on two separate charges of attempted suicide and allegedly arming criminals. He was granted bail by the judges in both cases.

However, in reaction, Melaye denied any wrongdoing and said he was being persecuted by the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, and the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, but the Governor has distanced himself from the Senator’s ordeal.

Penpushing reports that, the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood  in reacting to the surrender in a statement  affirmed that  Melaye “is currently in police custody for investigation, and subsequently, taken to police hospital, Abuja for medical attention and he is in stable condition’, adding that he would be charge to court “on completion of investigation.”
