Online publishers arrive Abuja for national conference

The members of Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) on Monday arrived Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the 2023 Annual Conference scheduled to hold at Abuja Continental Hotel (Old Sheraton).

Penpushing reports that the members led by their President Maureen Chigbo came from all states of the country through air and land respectively to be part of the 7th edition of the conference which will end on October 6, 2023.

The publishers were later in the evening hosted to a dinner sponsored by the editorial board and management of The Whistler Newspapers held at The Wells Carton Hotel and Apartments Asokoro, Abeokuta

Penpushing further reports that the members were treated to sumptuous meal, as they all wined and dined together, a ceremony which also include dancing competition among the publishers, with the three winners went with cash gifts.

The winners include Nnanke Harry Willie who came first, followed by Victoria Ibanga with second position and Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji securing third position, while the cash gifts were presented to them respectively by the management of the Whistlers Newspapers.

Penpushing reports that a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the Guild, Remmy Nweke, as approved by the Chairman of 2023 Conference Planning Committee, Danlami Nmodu explained that the theme for the conference is “Nigeria: Roadmap for Socio-Economic Recovery and Sustainability”.

The statement said the choice of the topic is informed by current socio-political and economic realities facing Nigeria where a new set of leaders at national and state levels has emerged after the 2023 general elections.

Penpushing also reports that the statement added that the Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, is to chair the conference, while the first Nigerian Professor of Capital Market, Prof. Uchenna Joseph Uwaleke, is to deliver keynote address with the theme: “Nigeria: Roadmap for Socio-Economic Recovery and Sustainability”.

The statement said panelists include the Secretary-General, Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU), Prof. Yakubu A. Ochefu; Special Adviser to the President (Policy Coordination) Hajia Hadiza Bala-Usman, and Chief Executive Officer, Cowry Assets Management Ltd, Mr. Johnson Chukwu.

Penpushing reports that the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), was established to ensure that online publishers uphold the tenets of journalism in doing their jobs and membership is a constellation of editors and senior journalists, whom, having distinguished themselves in their various stations in the print and electronic media, ventured into online publishing which is both the present and future of journalism globally.
