One dies, 7 injured in Ibadan-Lagos Expressway crash
A road crash involving a Toyota Hiace with registration number GAS 937 XA on Tuesday claimed life of one person and other seven passengers sistaining injuries on Christopher University axis in Obafemi-Owode local government area of Ogun State along Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.
Penpushing reports that Public Relations Officer of Ogun State Traffic Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi who confirmed the incident in a statement said an eyewitness explained that the white Hiace bus driver lost control due to a brake failure coupled with excessive speed and also hit a moving Truck at rear.
The statement added that as at the time of filing this report the injured victims have been taken to Famobis Hospital by the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) before arrival of the Ogun State Traffic Agency officials stating that the presumed dead was deposited at Fakoya morgue in Sagamu.
Penpushing further reports that Akinbiyi said the eyewitness said the vehicle was outbound Lagos (coming from Lagos) to Jalingo, Taraba state, when on getting to Christopher University axis of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway axis, the crash occurred.
The agency spokesman said traffic was majorly affected adding that later the Police, Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) and Ogun State Traffic Agency officials cleared debris at the scene to make the expressway motorable for travellers
Penpushing also reports that Akinbiyi said the agency commiserate with the family of the deceased, and that motorists are admonished to avoid excessive speed and ensure their vehicles are well maintained, particularly the breaking system, in view of it’s attendant consequences.
