Olubode Ojajuni appointed new commissioner of police ogun state
The Inspector of Police has appointed Olubode Ojajuni as the new Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, to take over from the outgoing Commissioner, Ogunlowo who has been promoted to the position of Assistant Inspector General of Police.
Penpushing reports that Olajuni is a seasoned officer with decades of operational, investigative, and administrative experience, joined the police as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1996.
The newly appointed police commissioner has steadily risen through the ranks, carving a reputation for professionalism and strategic leadership across multiple commands and specialised units nationwide.
Penpushing further reports that he served as Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command between 2005 and 2007, where he played a key role in shaping public communication for the force.
The commissioner later served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bode Thomas Division in Surulere from 2007 to 2009, before moving to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, where he headed the Anti-Fraud Section between 2011 and 2012.
Penpushing also reports that Ojajuni’s operational expertise was deployed to the Police Mobile Force (PMF), where he served as Squadron Commander in several strategic locations including Ikeja, Epe, Asaba, and Abeokuta.
The police chieftain at a time chaired the Petroleum Taskforce (PTF) and led anti-robbery operations in Yola, Adamawa State, and between 2017 and 2019, he served as Principal Staff Officer to former Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
Penpushing reports that he later returned to Lagos as Area Commander of Area A Command, Lion Building, Lagos Island, from 2020 to 2022, before taking on higher responsibilities as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department in Ogun State between 2022 and 2023.
The profile has it that his international policing credentials were further strengthened with his posting to INTERPOL, where he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police INTERPOL at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, in 2023.
Penpushing further reports that and subsequently as Commissioner of Police, INTERPOL (NCB Abuja) in 2025, and the year he secured a seat on the INTERPOL Africa Committee, underscoring his influence in cross-border crime-fighting initiatives.
The Commissioner of Police distinguished service has earned him several accolades, including Area Commander of the Year (2021), the Outstanding African Nations Builder’s Gold Award in Accra (2007), and multiple honours from the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN), reflecting his impact on policing and public safety.
