Olowu meets education stakeholders to fashion out better academic performance for students

The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Prof) Saka Matemilola has met with Zonal Educational Officers and Principals of some secondary schools in the kingdom to fashion out alternative methods to further help students and schools under the Olowu Foundation.

Penpushing reports that the meeting was held at the palace on Friday where stakeholders which also include Chairmen and Secretaries of Parents Club and the Zonal Education Officers made presentation, while the meeting in same vein discussed on developmental growth of qualified learners and the rest learners in order to place their footsteps on a productive pedestal for posterity.

The Principals and Parents Teachers Association at the meeting listed number of challenges which include lack of securities, lack of inadequate text books and teachers, lateness, absenteeism among others.

Penpushing further reports that the wife of the monarch, Olori Adijat Matemilola in her contributions disclosed that the foundation started operations IN 2022 with students of Owu  as beneficiaries and the gestures were later extended to non-indigenes.

The Olori stated that, with the results had last year the foundation discovered that number of schools and their students performed below expectations, hence, need for the meeting to pave way for improvement

Penpushing also reports that Matemilola who is the chairperson of the foundation advised the Parents Teachers Association and Principals on need to liase with the traditional chiefs (Baales) in their districts to assist with security in the area, adding that the project covers schools in Abeokuta and Ewekoro districts.

The Zonal Education Officers on their own part said they would appreciate written complaints and positive support from the Parents/Teachers Forum which will assist in addressing any challenges noticed by them

‘That was why the meeting was scheduled for us to rub minds to enhance better performance. The zonal education secretaries are here as well. The teachers are not here because they’re conducting exams for the students’, she said.

‘We conduct examination to pick those that are merit, we don’t know the students and we don’t choose favoritism. The students we will pay for will soon commence classes’, the foundation coordinator stated

Penpushing reports that Olowu in his remarks assured that the project has come to stay explaining it was designed to add value to academic activities of the students, particularly the indigents who have been discovered to exhibit brilliance.

The first-class traditional rulers tasked on teachers on need to be a good role model to the students, as well as parents in ensuring that proper home trainings are injected into their wards for them to secure better future.

The royal father emphasized that all stakeholders should be up and doing in providing conducive environment for the younger generation, as a way to disabuse their minds from activities that may ruin their future.

Penpushing also reports that he assured participants that the meeting will be continuous as well way do regular review, identified lapses and proffer solutions to them at any given time, stressing on need for all stakeholders to be alert for the betterment of the children
