Ogun state women journalists get new leadership

The National Association of Women Journalists,(NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter has inaugurated a new executive  who emerged unopposed to pilot the affairs of the association for the next three years.

Penpushing reports that the inauguration conducted by the  B Zone Vice President Comrade Morenike Tony- Esan  was held at Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) Iwe- Iroyin Press Centre located at Oke-Ilewo, in Abeokuta, the State Capital.

The Vice President in her speech enjoined the new officials to be more vibrant and united in order to move the association forward, and also urged them not to allow the position they hold to bring any hindrance to their homes and work.

Penpushing further reports that, she equally encouraged them to change the bad impression of publics about the association, noting that the electoral process was smooth, seamless, peaceful and devoid of rancor.

The women journalists’ leader pointed out that, the success of the electoral process at this time, speaks to the level of maturity, love and singleness of purpose, currently pervading the atmosphere of the union, and which must be hoisted higher for others to see and emulate.

Penpushing also reports Tony-Esan stated that the first duty of the association was to sustain the upward glide that belongs to all female journalists, adding that the association is strong enough to defend members and other women against sexual exploitation and discrimination, flexible and progressive enough to increase knowledge and professional values.

The Vice President, however called on all Nawojians to join hands with the new leadership to set a better course for the voyage of association, noting that, “a lot lies ahead of us. Give us the benefit of your support and wisdom and it shall bear testimony for or against us in due course before posterity’.

‘Journalism is about giving voice to the voiceless. And as Women journalists and mothers we are prepared to give a voice to women in different sector of the society. We are prepared to give a voice to Children and even our husbands where necessary’ she said

Penpushing reports that, the Chairperson of the chapter, Dupe Sobukola in her acceptance speech assured that, the association under her watch will give a voice against social vices and other indecent acts in the society.

The Chairperson added that its responsibility of the members to make the association great, adding that as women journalists they are ready within the next three years to join other constituted authorities to make the state and journalism better

“Ogun NAWOJ under my watch as the Chairperson will give a voice against social vices and other indecent acts in the society. It’s a collective responsibility and we as women journalists are ready within the next three years to join other constituted authorities to make our state and Nigeria and the journalism profession a lot better than it is now”, she said

The newly inaugurated eecutive include: Comrade Modupeola Sobukola (Chairperson), Comrade Oluseyi Ajala (Vice Chairperson) Comrade Aminat Orunsolu(Gen Secretary),Comrade Morekeniji Sobaloju(Treasurer), Comrade Bosede Akintunde(Financial Secretary),Comrade Adejoke Adeleye(Assistant Secretary).

Meanwhile, shortly after the inauguration of the  the executives went on a condolence visit to the home of the immediate past Chairperson Comrade Remi Adebiyi who lost her  husband few days to the inauguration.
