Group disassociates Osinbajo from establishment of campaign office

A political pressure group Progressive Consolidation Group (PCG) has admitted error in a campaign office linked with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo explaining that the said office does not belong to Osinbajo as reported in the media.

Penpushing reports that, the group in a statement of clarification issued by the Publicity Secretary, Barrister Emmanuel Pippa said Osinbajo has no link with the said office, but belong to the coalition.

The group stated that it believes in Osinbajo, hence, its resolved to mobilize support for him, adding that  it opened a campaign office to mobilise more support for him, as the only one competent to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We wish to clarify that the said office belongs to our coalition of support groups which strongly believes in Professor Osinbajo as the leader Nigeria needs in 2023, and is determined to get him to declare an interest in running for the office of President as early as possible. Solely for this purpose, our recently acquired administrative office is located in the heart of Wuse area of Abuja.

Penpushing further reports that, the group explained that as at the time of filing this report, the Vice President is yet to be acquainted with its activities and operations of the body

“We wish to clarify that the said office belongs to our coalition of support groups which strongly believes in Professor Osinbajo as the leader Nigeria needs in 2023, and is determined to get him to declare an interest in running for the office of President as early as possible. Solely for this purpose, our recently acquired administrative office is located in the heart of Wuse area of Abuja’, the statement reads.

.“Even though Professor Osinbajo is yet to be acquainted with our activities, we intend to operate through a new organ, The Progressive Project (TPP) to coordinate youth, women and other groups across the federation’, Pippa wrote.

“Ours is therefore not a campaign office but a venue for coordination, handling of increasing volume of correspondence and meetings in readiness for the time when Vice President Yemi Osinbajo accedes to our request for him to run and consolidate gains made under President Muhammadu Buhari’.

‘Party chieftains will of course lead the real campaign when that time comes.Being a heartbeat away from the number one job, there are countless APC members and even, non-partisan citizens across the federation who are pushing for Professor Yemi Osinbajo to succeed or highly revered President Buhari, solely in the interest of the nation’.

“We are convinced that Osinbajo’s level of familiarity with the vision, achievements and challenges being handled by President Buhari is second to none, and that such insight would enable a new APC administration hit the ground running in 2023. We anticipate that various new and existing pro-Osinbajo platforms will become part of the group to which their focus appears more relevant”, the statement emphaised

Penpushing also reports that, it s recalled that, a body, Public Opinion and Advocacy Group had earlier expressed shock over the news, which filtered out, stressing that members were caught with an element of surprise

‘We were surprised because over and over again, the VP has reiterated, through his spokesperson Laolu Akande, that he is focused on his current job and needs no distraction for the all important assignment at hand’, the group stated.

‘However, upon our complete reading of the news story, we found to our consternation that the said office WAS NOT OPENED by VP Osinbajo but by a group which calls itself the Progressives Consolidation Group. Pray, when did such group become the VP or the Office of the Vice President?’

‘For the sake of contextual expediency, it is also apposite to note that the much publicized office opening never had the attendance of the VP either in person or by proxy as none of his official aides were also there’, the advocacy group stated.

‘Flowing from the above, we would like to caution journalists to stop  overheating the polity. While we recognize the fact that events of this nature are commonplace in the impending political season, we advise journalists as the conscience of the people to uphold the truth at all times.
