Ogun State House of Assembly tasks community leaders to step up campaigns against coronavirus

The Ogun State House of Assembly has challenged community leaders known as Baales to step up sensitisation teams towards collaborating with the State Ministry of Health in sensitizing  their subjects on the preventive measures against the spread of Coronavirus disease .

Penpushing reports that , the Speaker, Rt Hon Kunle Oluomo gave the charge while responding to the remarks of  a member representing Abeokuta South II State Constituency, Hon. Adeyemi Ademuyiwa, who spoke under Personal Explanation, on the need for the relevant agencies of government to improve on the sensitization and orientation of residents, particularly the rural dwellers.

The Speaker, also called on the Community Development Departments in the twenty local government councils in the State as well as the Community Development Councils to do same, just as he acknowledged  the impressive media sensitization and advertorial against the spread of the disease in the State,

Penpushing further reports that, Oluomo also tasked members of the Community Development Associations in all parts of the State to join in the massive campaign against the spread of the disease.

The Speaker in another development appealed to the State Governor, to intervene  on behalf of border communities in the State, especially Imeko Afon and other parts of the State on the need to prevail on the men and officers of the customs service to check their excesses as they had extended the Federal Government’s directive on 20km to over 30km causing unnecessary challenges for the residents of some of the border communities in the State.

Penpushing reports that, Oluomo made the appeal while responding to the presentation of the Minority Whip, Jemili Akingbade, who reported the excesses of the men of the Customs drafted to the border towns, who often stopped petroleum tankers from places like Olorunda and Owode, which were over 30km to the border, thereby making access to the product  more difficult for the residents of the border communities.

The Speaker at the plenary, acknowledged a correspondence dated 3rd March, 2020 from the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun proposing a Bill for a Law to amend the Ogun State Health Insurance Law, 2018.

“The bill which has received the approval of the State Executive Council is being forwarded for the due consideration of the House of Assembly and consequent passage into law” the letter partly reads.
