Ogun state house of assembly advocates establishment of special court to enfòrce anti-land grabbing law
The Ogun State House of Assembly has advocated for creation of a Special Court to enforce the anti-land grabbing law, stressing that the crimes remains major challenges in the state and environs which needs to be tackle head long.
Penpushing reports that Speaker of the Assembly Rt Hon Oludaisi Elemide made the call on Wednesday in his welcome address at the presentation of the 2025 approproation bill and commissioning of the renovated House of Assembly by Governor Dapo Abiodun held at the hallow chambers, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta.
The Speaker pointed out that in the last one year, the assemby received over forty issues relating to land,chieftaincy, environmental and transport unions, emphasizing that the anti-land grabbing law accounted for over 80 percent of all petitions received by the assembly.
“Let me at this juncture, emphasize the need for a special court to enforce the anti-land grabbing law as this accounted for over 80% of all petitions received by the House. The House also mediated on issues that could have caused disharmony amongst citizens and stakeholders or breach the peace of the state’, Elemide said.
Penpushing further reports that the Speaker equally gave highlights of the assembly performances within the last one year, which he said includes consideration of fourteen bills from which nine had been passed covering finance, education, judiciary,local government and infrastructure among others, while five other bills are at different stages of legislative processes.
The Speaker on resolutions explained that a total of thirty-two motions were passed into resolutions, which covered a wide range of issues covering general administration, security, land matters, local government issues,education, finance, judiciary, audit, public works and infrastructure, community development, parks and garages, traffic compliance and enforcement among others, emphasizing that all of these resolutions have direct bearing on the life of the people.
Penpushing also reports that Elemide assured the Governor that the House of Assembly has been able to conduct its legislative business as a team devoid of acrimony, stressing that the lawmakers remained indivisible, and thanked him for the transformation of the assembly
