Ogun state government identifies source of adulterated gas, seals company

The Ogun State Government on Friday uncovered the source of the adulterated gas that  caused incessant explosion, which so far led  to the death of seven persons in Abeokuta, the state capital in the last one week, and therefore sealed up the company.

Penpushing reports that, the fact finding committee set up by the government to investigate the incessant gas explosion discovered the company, through a retailer whose outlet is located at Omida area in Abeokuta South Local Government.

The discovery was the outcome of the committee visit to the scene of fourth gas explosion which occurred on Thursday morning at a construction company situated in Adigbe area of the town, as findings from the officials of the affected company disclosed the source of purchase to the fact finding committee.

Penpushing further reports that, the committee led by Commissioner for  Special Duties and Inter Governmental, accompanied by Commissioner of Police, Director of State Security Service, Commandant Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, Director of Fire Service, Permanent Secretary Special Duties(Kehinde Onasanya)  and journalists among other stakeholders, thereafter moved to retailer’s outlet at Omida.

The Head of the outlet during interrogation by the committee disclosed the source of the purchase, a company located at Idi-Ori, an outskirt of Abeokuta, where they met one of the management staff who conducted the team round the premises.

Penpushing also reports that, on completion of the check on the facility, the fact finding committee ordered the closure of the company, and requested the management to come for a meeting with the committee at the State Secretariat in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The gas explosion which rocked the town has so far claimed lives of seven persons in a separate incident which occurred within one week, an ugly development which is now causing panic for the residents.

Penpushing reports that, the first incident occurred around at Oke-Egunya, along Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) road in the town claiming three persons including an infant, and barely few days to the sad development, another explosion happened at Conference Hotels also claiming two persons, while the third incident occurred at Marque Events Centre located within premises of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library with two lives lost.

The fourth incident occurred on Friday morning, at a construction company located at Adigbe area of the town, although no life was lost, but some residents and passerby were reported injured from the blast and were receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the scheduled meeting between the committee and other stakeholders was still ongoing, while it is expected that, the communiqué will be issued out at the end of the meeting.
