We are participating in local government election in Ogun state, says Peoples Democratic Party faction

A faction of the troubled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ogun State Chapter on Friday insisted participating in the local government election, in contrast to the withdrawal by the Sikirulai Ogundele faction of the party

Penpushing reports that, Ogundele faction had on Thursday in a statement said the decision to withdraw from the race was in line to a judgment of an Ogun State High Court, in a suit between him and the electoral body.

The factional chairman, it is recalled had dragged the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission(OGSIEC) to court for  allegedly supporting a faction of the party to destablise the party in the state.

“Sequel to the judgement of the Ogun State High Court, Isabo in suit no M/55/2021 between Sikirulai Ogundele VS OGSIEC, affirming the consent judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja as delivered on 22nd June, 2021, the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the able Chairmanship of Alh (Dr) Sikirulai Ogundele hereby withdraw from the Saturday July, 24 local government elections”, Ogundele said.

Penpushing further reports that, in response on Friday, a factional leader of the crisis ridden party, Leke Shittu declared that the court had ruled in favour of his  faction as authentic, hence, the party going to participate in the Saturday poll

The factional chairman in a statement said Ogundele led faction of the party was only trying to cause confusion by saying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  had pulled out of  the local government elections.

“This is to inform the general public and good people of Ogun State that the party has and will never pull out of tomorrow’s local government elections. We have done all that we are supposed to do under the law and we will surely participate in tomorrow’s local government elections’, Shittu declared.

“We hereby use this medium to urge the good people of Ogun State to disregard the statement credited to one Hon Sikirulai Ogundele who is not in any capacity capable to speak on behalf of our great party, PDP’, he said.

‘It’s all gimmicks to create confusion where there is none but as the authentic leadership of Ogun PDP, the opposition party is participating in tomorrow’s local government elections”,Shittu emphasised.

Penpushing also reports that Shittu, however urged electorate  to disregard the statement credited to  Ogundele stressing  that, his faction as the authentic leadership of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Ogun State is  going ahead with the local government elections as scheduled for Saturday, July 24″.
