OGUN LAWMAKERS CANVASS FOR MORE FIRE STATIONS, MODERN EQUIPMENT
The Deputy Speaker, Oludare Kadiri, while opening debate on the resolution lamented the loss of lives and properties arising from the fire incidence at the toll gate in Ota, noting that it had become expedient for the State to immediately procure more modern firefighting equipment to prepare the Divisional Fire Stations for effective response to distress calls of fire outbreak in any part of the State.
Penpushing further reports that, some lawmakers include; Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye, Abayomi Fasuwa, Adegoke Adeyanju and Yusuf Adejojo, while lending their support to the passage of the resolution stressed the importance of modern equipment to fire disaster management, with a call for special recognition to industrial areas in the State as the dry season approaches, in order to reduce incidence of fire outbreak.
Another set of lawmakers including Adeyemi Ademuyiwa, Kunle Sobukanla and Kemi Oduwole, while appraising the operations of the State Fire Service, canvassed for the provision of emergency numbers and more administrative measures to enhance professionalism and quality service delivery.
The Assembly members commiserated with victims of fire outbreak at the old Toll Gate area, in Ado-Odo/ Ota and Oke-Itoku area of Abeokuta recently, while commending the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assistance to the victims.
The Assembly in another development says plans are underway to create an enabling law for Waste Management Agency in the State, towards ensuring best practices in waste management through effective generation and hygienic disposal of wastes.
The Speaker, Olukunle Oluomo stated this in his response to the submission of his Deputy, Oludare Kadiri, under Personal Explanation, who reported the state of refuse dumps at different points at Ago-Iwoye, Mamu Markets and condition of some roads in his constituency.
Penpushing also reports that,he assured that the State Public Works Agency would soon commence massive rehabilitation and application of palliatives where necessary, as soon as the rainy season is over, advising residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse by the road sides and undesignated points to avert outbreak of diseases in the State.
