Gunmen behead council chairman in Imo state

Gunmen have beheaded the sole administrator of Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, Christopher Ohizu , after his abduction alongside two others when the gunmen attacked him and set his residence ablaze.

Penpushing reports that the attackers beheaded the victim, who hailed from Imoko community, after his family reportedly paid N6 million as ransom to them, while it was not clear when the gunmen killed him, but a video clip showing him being beheaded has been circulating on WhatsApp groups since Sunday.

The video clip showed the gunmen who claimed to be Biafra agitators, tied the victims’ hands at the back before beheading him, while at the background a member of the gang was heard saying there won’t be election in the South-East of the country

Penpushing further reports that sources said the gunmen were attacking those backing the conduct of the 2023 elections in the South-east, adding that people got to know about the beheading through the victims WhatsApp status as posted by the gunmen

‘We are not the Eastern Security Network (ESN). We are not Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). We are fighting to gain our freedom and there will be no election in the South-east,” one of the gunmen was heard speaking in the background of the clip.

Penpushing also reports that the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident but did not give details, but added that investigation was ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
