Akpabio elected as senate president, Jibrin is deputy senate president

The former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State Godswill Akpabio, has been elected as the president for the 10th Senate, having polled 63 votes to defeat his lone challenger, Abdulaziz Yari, who recorded 46 votes

Penpushing reports that Yari was also a former governor of Zamfara State, while Senator representing Kano North, Senator Barau Jibrin, also emerged as the Deputy Senate President at the voting which took place at the floor of the Senate.

The election was coordinated by the Clerk of the Senate, and shortly after the exercise Akpabio was immediately sworn-in after he was announced winner of the election, and he will be the 9th president of the Senate since the beginning of the Fourth Republic.

Penpushing further reports that  Jibrin who emerged unopposed as the Deputy Senate President was nominated for the position by Senator Dave Umahi and seconded by Senator Sani Mustapha from Kwara State.
