OGUN AFRICAN DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS ACCUSES RULING ALL PROGRESSIVES’ CONGRESS OF PLOT TO MOP VOTERS CARDS
He said, “We have gathered reports of a massive mop-up of voter’s cards from residents in the State, on the promise of financial rewards on election day. The trick is to use various professional associations to collect their members’ PVCs and get their dossier also, to determine their local government areas, wards, and voting units; with an assurance that all those who comply will be handsomely rewarded on election day’.
“Already, we can confirm that the voter’s cards of members of a popular drivers’ union in Ogun State had been procured through promises of adequate compensation, and subtle threats’, the statement reads.
Penpushing further reports that, the party added that another device, aimed at compromising the coming election, as revealed to the African Democratic Party(ADC), was to bring money to voting centres, do a close-up on the voter before giving financial reward.
The statement said, such approach was aside from encouraging compromised voters to swear an oath of loyalty before collecting money, and further alerted that it had obtained feelers that military and police guards would be assigned to all leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on election day, a step which it said could greatly compromise the elections, “through well-known acts of public intimidation, clamp-down on opposition, and other forms of political brigandage.”
Penpushing also reports that, the statement, called on the people to resist any attempt by desperate politicians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), saying, “your voter’s card is your power to decide your future’.
“We will also implore the Independent National Electoral Commission to enforce the ban on the use of camera phones at voting centres, and then make sure that voters perform their civic duties without let or hindrance.”
‘The party particularly recalled that since international observers would be monitoring the elections, all stakeholders in the Nigerian project must stand up to ensure that the image of the country was not dragged through the mud, “by those who are desperate to cling to power at all costs.”
