Obi’s popularity in south-east, south-south regions affected my performance at poll, says atiku abubakar

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has affirmed that candidacy  of the Labour Party(LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi denied Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) votes from its traditional strongholds in the South-east and South-south regions.

Penpushing reports that Atiku made this known on Thursday at a press conference held in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where he reiterated his party’s position to reject the results of the presidential election.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate explained that even with popularity of Obi on those regions the victory cannot be sufficient for him (Obi) to be declared president, adding that he(Obi) could not have gotten the constitutionally required spread needed to be declared president.

Penpushing further reports that Atiku pointed out that apart from winning majority votes, a candidate is also expected to get 25 per cent of votes in at least 25 states to be declared the winner of the presidential election.

The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) candidate in the just concluded Presidential election, it is recalled came second in the election behind All Progressives Congress(APC) candidate,  Bola Tinubu who emerged as the winner, while Obi came third in the election.

Penpushing also reports that each of the three major candidates, however, won in 12 states while  Tinubu was the only one that scored 25 per cent of votes in more than 24 states, having  scored it in 30 states, a constitutional requirement to be declared the winner.
