Obasanjo identifies six essential items for positive nation- building

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has identified six essential items for development, growth and progress for all nations in the world, stressing that development is the ability to be able to get what you need to live a simple, convenient comfortable life.

Penpushing reports that Obasanjo stated this on Saturday in his keynote address at the Leadership Empowerment International Conference organized by the Priesthood Leadership Development Initiative (PLDI) held in Abeokuta.

The former President who is Global Patron of the renowned Leadership Empowerment International Conference (LEIC), at the ceremony where notable individuals which include prominent members of Penpushing Platform, Chief Femi Shodunke and Yinka Kotoye, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) were bestowed with Honorary Doctorate, added that no leader can make contribution unless ready to make sacrifice

Penpushing further reports that he lamented on the situation where about 24 million children in Nigeria are out of school, pointing out that those children cannot make positive development to the development of their country because they have not been nurtured.

‘They have not been nurtured what nature have giving to them. And if they are not educated, how can they be useful? How can they make the contribution that have to be there?’, Obasanjo stated

Penpushing also reports that he itemised the essential items as include Human Vital Development, Infrastructure, Security, context and content of development, growth and progress, stressing that all these must manifest in community, state, country, continent and indeed in the world

‘You cannot make contribution as a leader unless you are ready to make sacrifice. Leadership must entail sacrifice and if I can go a little bit, leadership must be sacrificial, it must be servant leadership’, he emphasised.

‘Thats what Jesus said, those who want to be greater must be a servant. Of course, leadership also must be transformational. Someone ones asked who is a leader and I gave him 50 characteristics of a leader’, Obasanjo added.

‘A leader should be a teacher, a leader is a learner, a leader is a mentor, a leader is a monitor, a leader is a friend, a leader is a emphasizer, a leader is in the world, a leader is an achiever. and for you to be able to achieve this, then you must be close to God’, he added.

‘Because you need confidence, you need worthiness, you need spirituality to do what God wants you to be. I always say no end, no termination, no retirement from being a leader’, Obasanko stated.

Penpushing reports that while congratulating the awardees, he stated that they were honoured because they deserve it, and urged them to count on the honour as a service they have rendered to the community and they must continue.

‘I thank God for those who are honoured today, you are honoured because you deserve it. I want you to count the honour as a service you have rendered to the community and you must continue’.
