NON -GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS INTRODUCE SENSITIZATION TRAINING FOR STUDENTS ON IMMORALITY

The Chairperson of Gender Development Initiative, Prof Olubunmi Ashimolowo in her opening remarks said the organization organized the programme to help prevent children from engaging in cultism, rape, defilement and develop assertive skills due to incidents that occurred in the state two years ago.

Penpushing reports that, she therefore urged students to place value on their body and urged them to see their school counselors whenever they have issues bothering them.

However, at the session, one of the students (namewitheld) who claimed to have  denounced his membership in cultism  narrated his experience as a cultist to his colleagues, affirming that majority of student cultists were forcefully initiated.

He disclosed that members are known to take blood oath and used the occasion in pleading to the students to shun whoever makes attempt   to lure them into the group, and also urged those into cultism to take bold steps to denounce the group.

The student emphasized that quitting the group is best way out, adding that there are  better things  to do rather than living in fear and danger, just as  he later lecture  his colleagues  on the negative effects of cultism to their lives and society.

Penpushing further reports that, another Speaker at the session, Miss Olubunmi Kolawole, who is a  a serving corper and a member of Gender Vanguard CDs Group lectured the students  on rape, which she  defined  as means of forcing someone with sex.

She said the consequences of rape in the life of the victim most times resulted into STI, Psychological and emotional Trauma, pointing out with a warning that culprit of rape end up in jail. She also narrated her story on how she was sexually assaulted by her uncle as a teenager.

The Guest lecture urged the students to reports anyone who sexually assault them to their parents or the school counselors.

In his own remark,  a representative of Wheels of Hope Rising Foundation, Temitayo Adigun lectured the students on how to develop their assertive skills, stating that children should learn to say no when they feel someone is trying to lure them into sexual relationship.

Penpushing reports that, at the end of the session, gifts were presented to the female students, while two of them, Miss Omigade Oreofe and   Odutan Temidayo were nominated as the Gender Ambassador for the Nationwide Teenage Sensitization in Lisabi Grammar School,Abeokuta.
