NON GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATION KNOCKS GOVERNOR ABIODUN FOR EXCLUDING ELDERLY, DISABLED IN INAUGURAL SPEECH

The statement added, that, the organisation recalled its position paper to the new Governor where it had suggested the imperative need for Ogun State to establish a Board for the Elderly and Disability Matters.

“This would help institutionalize the care and welfare of the two categories of people, ensuring  efficient and effective articulation, coordination and implementation of policies, programmes and projects concerning these voiceless members of our society, and, no less placing the State in a position to harness national and international support.”

Penpushing further reports that, the statement said notwithstanding the grievous omission, the group commended the new Governor for his pledge to work towards an inclusive society, an Ogun State that will embrace all groups of people. “We cherish this refreshing vision,” the statement observed.

The statement stated that, it would be recalled that shortly before the 2019 general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari had also assented to the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Bill with a National Commission for Persons with Disabilities expected to be established to see to the effective implementation of the law.

‘The NDDRI therefore appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to champion the goal of delivering effective care and welfare to the aged and people with disability in Ogun State as the organisation assures him of our support and cooperation in this direction’,Gbesan stated.
