Nigerian Institute of Journalism’s multi-million-naira media resource centre commissioned

The Multi-Million Naira Media Resource Centre of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos State donated by a renowned philanthropist and business mogul Sir Kensington Adebutu was on Wednesday commissioned.

Penpushing reports that the commissioning of the project facilitated by a veteran journalist and former Governor of Ogun State Chief Olusegun Osoba was witnessed by other media veterans, serving media practitioners and number of old students of the institute.

The ceremony provided opportunity for old students who had lost contacts many years after they left the school to once again reunited, while the first Provost of the Institute, Dr Lizzy Nkem was not left out from the well packaged and colourful events.

Penpushing further reports that guests were conducted round the edifice by the Provost of the Institute, Gbenga Adefaye accompanied by other management staff, as well as members of the governing council headed by Osoba.

The donor did not stop at the construction of the spacious and architectural designed media resource centre, as he equally provided equipment for use in the centre for the benefits of the students and other stakeholders

 Penpushing further reports that in his welcome speech, Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), profusely appreciated the donor, who he said was globally known for his gestures across all sectors and prayed for good health for him.

The Provost added that the provision of the media resource centre, will no doubt add value to the institute, stressing that it will in the same vein, encouraged the undergraduates as well as prospective applicants

Penpushing also reports that facilitator of the project, Osoba in his own remarks pointed out that Adebutu, is a notable Nigerian that should always be celebrated for his kind heart, and love for the development growth of both individuals and country.

The journalism guru emphasized that Adebutu did not only ventured into commerce and industry, but extended his gestures to the media world, explaining that even without establishing a media outlet, his contribution into media upliftment is on record

Penpushing reports that Adebutu in his speech commended the Chairman, Council of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Board Members and all connected with the Resource Centre, for conceptualising the unique project, which he said without doubt will further enhance Journalism in Nigeria.

The Odole-Oodua of the source added that he felt a sense of pride to be associated with the project as the donor and particularly for the fact that the project is in sync, with the objectives of his foundation which in essence, is to give back as much as possible to the society,

‘I must primarily give thanks to the Good Lord Who makes all things happen. May He continue to enable us to be useful to Humanity. Amen. I feel a sense of pride to be associated with this project as the Donor and particularly for the fact that the project is in sync, with the objectives of my Foundation ie. Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation (KAAF) which in essence, is to give back as much as possible to the society, what the Good Lord in His unquantifiable goodness has favoured me with, irrespective of Clans, Religious biases and Political leanings. All Glory and Thanks to the Good Lord’, he said.

Penpushing further reports that Adebutu enjoined all those associated with the project and indeed all passing through its portal to make good use of it much as he prayed that the Fourth Estate of The Realm which the Media represents, continue to expand in leaps and bounds.

The old students of the institute later held a reunion meeting inside the hall of the resource centre, and were equally treated to a cocktail by the management of the institute in collaboration with the governing council

Penpushing also reports that members of the governing council in attendance include Ray Ekpu, Sam Amuka-Pemu, Lanre Ogundipe, Garba Bello Kakanrofi, Akpadem James, Olufunke Fadugba, Patricia Kalesanwo, Nkechu Alli-Balogun and Dr Sanya Awosan(President Almuni Association)

Meanwhile, the programme was anchored by Dr Jide Johnson accompanied by Tolulope Ojemuyiwa, Public Relations Officer of the Institute
