Nigerian goalkeeper shot, hospitalized
The Goalkeeper of Abia Warriors, Charles Tambe, has been shot by suspected hoodlums who waylaid him and collected his wristwatch and handset, and as at the time of filing this report, the player was receiving medical attention at the University College Hospital (UCH),Ibadan
Penpushing reports that, he was attacked during his usual morning walkout at about 7 a.m. on Friday in Apata area of Ibadan, and the wife of the victim, a practicing journalist was said to be with him at the University College of Hospital( UCH) where she has made the initial deposit for the treatment of her husband.
“This is another sad news in the NPFL, I just spoke with the wife now but she is just too devastated to say anything, she just told me that she is in UCH to deposit some money so they can begin the treatment of her husband”, a family source said
Penpushing further reports that, the sporting Director of the club Patrick Ngwaogwu, in a statement confirmed the unfortunate incident but have assured that the situation is firmly under control, adding that there was no need to panic.
The Director said the management is on top of the situation adding that the goalkeeper will be released as soon as he is treated and regains fitness, adding that,“Abia Warriors goalkeeper Charles , after he was shot Friday morning by hoodlums in Ibadan. He has been rushed to UCH for medical attention. The club is on top of the situation.”
Penpushing also reports that, the club like other clubs in Nigeria are on break following the suspension of the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) due to the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
