Super Falcons stop Benin to qualify for 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations
The 10-time African champions Super Falcons on Tuesday defeated the Amazons of Benin 3-1 on aggregate to seal qualification for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled for 2026.
Penpushing reports that it would be recalled that the Super Falcons had earlier won the first leg of this eliminator 2-0 in Lome, Togo, before they were held to a 1-1 draw in the return leg in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.
The match attracted large turnout of spectators at the Moshood Abiola International Sports Arena saw Ashleigh Plumptre score her first-ever Super Falcons goal, having got past the Benin defence and nodded the ball inside the net.
Penpushing further reports that the goal was courtesy of Esther Okoronkwo delivery in the 12th minute of the encounter, while in the 80th minute the Amazons of Benin struggled hard to record a goal.
The Benin paraded as many as 10 foreign pros, which the Super Falcons were able to check mate, ensuring that the visiting team did not defeat them, however, with the victory the Nigerian girls will defend their continental title
