Nigerian Girl Guides association celebrates 2024 World Thinking Day in Ogun State

The Nigerian Girl Guides Association, Ogun State Branch on Saturday celebrated the 2024 anniversary tagged ‘World Thinking Day’ held at the Valley View, Ogun State Government House located at Isale-Igbein, Abeokuta, the state capital.
Penpushing reports that the ceremony which was aimed to join hands together to the development of girl child and young women has the theme, ’Our World… Out Thriving Future’ ,and was attended by number of women folks, including female students from various schools
The students at the event conducted cultural dance, choreography and ewi renditions as well as competitions among other side attractions to add colour and glamour to the ceremony which has Deaconess Cynthia Saka as the chairperson, who is immediate past President Chambers of Commerce Ota/Agbara Chapter
Penpushing further reports that Saka in her speech pointed out that the World Thinking Day is a yearly event that takes place every February 22nd and aims to celebrate friendship, sisterhood and the empowerment of girls and young women all over the world.
The chairperson stated that asides from the celebration of girls and young women, it is also aimed at discussing key global issues and fund raising for the 8.8 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world.
‘In 2022, the theme was “Our World, Our Equal Future; The Environment and gender equality”. In 2023, the theme was “Our World, Our Peaceful Future; The Environment and Peace” In 2024, the theme is “Our World, Our Thriving Future’, she said
Penpushing also reports that Saka explained that the objective is to consider how there would be collaboration to build a more prosperous future where girls and young women who are leaders of environmentally sustainable world.
The chairperson of the occasion added that this year’s theme does not only remind participants part in environmental sustainability, it gives them a bit of hope that a thriving future is not impossible, adding that girls and young women in attendance are worthy to be celebrated, and they should also endeavour to celebrate themselves.
Penpushing reports that part of programme of events was the inauguration of new officials which was conducted by the commissioner of the association, Moyosore Adeyemi supported by other national officials of the body
The Olori of Owu Kingdom Aminat Matemilola in her remarks charged the women and young girls not to relegate themselves in nation building, rather they should be problem solver, noting that the role of the association was to render help
Penpushing further reports that in her own remarks Mrs Rhoda Thomas advised the elected leaders of the district to adhere strictly to rules guiding the association and must be seen as genuine representatives all time.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs represented by Mrs Oyekunle in her goodwill message encourage the members of the association to remain focused, and not be discourage by any challenges, stressing that there is no limit where a girl-child can go in life
