Nigerian court convicts fake American soldier

A fake United States of America (USA) soldier Zulayman Haruna has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Kaduna State High Court in Kaduna, having been found guilty of internet fraud and impersonation.

Penpushing reports that Haruna was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC), and charged with one count of falsely presenting himself as Mariee Guerrero, a white female military personnel, to many unsuspecting victims on Facebook in order to cheat them.

The Head Media and Publicity of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Dele Oyewale said in a statement that Haruna pleaded guilty to the charge, and following acceptance of the crime he was jailed.

Penpushing further reports that the trial judge, Justice, A.A Bello handed over the jail term with an option of fine of N150,000, and in addition ordered him to forfeit an iPhone X, the tool used for the crime, to the Nigerian government through the crimes commission.

The commission explained said Haruna was prosecuted and convicted under section 57 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law of 2017, which the offence violated, adding that the crime is punishable under section 309 of the same law, according to the charge filed against the convict.
